CANNABINOIDS 101

CANNABINOIDS are the fundamental ingredients in CANNABIS that contribute to the different types of effects and medicinal uses that can be provided. THC and CBD are the two most abundant naturally occurring CANNABINOIDS, and they determine if the medicine will be more heavy and relaxing, or clear and uplifting. Keep in mind that there are many other CANNABINOIDS that contribute to the unique balance is which makes each strain different.

INDICA based CANNABIS is found to have a higher ratio of CBD to THC. This makes the medicine heavy and relaxing which is better for night time use and treating pain related issues like Chronic Pain, Muscle Cramps/Spasms, and Arthritis. INDICA can also be used to help patients suffering from Glaucoma, Cancer, AIDS, MS, Crohn’s Disease, Fibromyalgia, Gastric Disorders and many other ailments.

SATIVA based CANNABIS is found to have a lower ratio of CBD to THC. This makes the medicine clear and uplifting which is better for day time use and mental health related issues like Depression, Anxiety, PTSD and ADD. SATIVA provides a creative and happy feeling which can be used to help patients with mood disorders.

Most strains of CANNABIS are hybrids of INDICA and SATIVA. Usually leaning more to one side but sometimes perfectly balanced. Every strain has a slightly different balance of CANNABINOIDS and every patient has a different balance of CANNABINOID receptors. It is important to remember this when choosing the right strains to medicate with as certain strains will work better for you than others. Experiment and keep a journal of what works best for you.
